BROWNIE BUCKS

This week, we begin the new system of earning and spending Brownie Bucks. These two girls exemplified the Girl Scout rules.

The new system will consist of a "Brownie Store" that will be open at the last meeting of the month. At that time, the girls who have earned bucks may spend them or save them for a "higher" priced item.

This system was voted upon by the girls themselves and replaces the monthly drawing. It gives them the power to try to earn as many as they want.

Welcome to Troop 510!

We are a sister troop. We will do some activities together as well as some separate activities.

Leaders

Meetings

Ø We will be meeting three times per month on Tuesdays at ASF Middle School cafeteria A from 6:00-7:30. A schedule of meetings is in your packet.

Ø Please make every effort to be on time (or a few minutes early) for meetings.

Ø Most projects will take the full 90 minutes.

Sign In & Out Sheet

Ø At each meeting or event, an adult must sign their child in when dropping them off and sign out when leaving.

Ø If your child is going home with someone else, please let us know when you drop her off.

Uniforms

Ø Uniforms are important to belonging to a Girl Scout troop. Each girl should feel that they are 100% part of the group. When attending outings, Community Service, field trips, ceremonies and cookie booths it is important to wear your uniform.

Ø You do NOT have to invest in an official uniform unless you want to.

Ø New uniforms are available at the Council store in Providence or online at goshop.org. Used uniforms are often found at Savers on Rt. 2 in Warwick and occasionally at Salvation Army and other thrift shops.

Ø New and used uniforms can also be found on ebay.

Ø All Girl Scout uniforms past and present are acceptable. For example, if “Aunt Jane” saved her Girl Scout uniform from 1974, you can wear it.

Brownies

Ø Brownies should wear their official Brownie vest along with chocolate brown bottoms and cream or white shirt.

Ø Chocolate brown bottoms can include pants, skirt, shorts or skort. Please always consider the type of activity we’re doing as well as the weather.

Leaders will advise parents when old clothes or cover-ups should be worn for messy projects. (For example, when we tie dye t-shirts.)

Communication

Ø Good communication is vital to everyone being on the same page. Please check your email regularly. This is the easiest way for leaders to keep everyone informed.

Ø If you don’t have email, we will gladly call you to with any new information needed.

Ø Please feel free to contact your child’s leader if you have questions or problems.

Dues

Ø Dues will be $5.00 per month.

Ø October – December $45.00

Ø Please make checks out to Troop 510 and put your child’s name on the memo line.

Ø Dues help pay for supplies and materials for meetings as well as patches and awards.

Ø Occasionally we will ask for additional funds for extra activities, but we try to keep that to a minimum. Many of our field trips planned are free!

Ø If dues are a problem, please see your child’s leader.

Medical Issues

Ø Please make sure the leaders know of any health issues your child might have. Alert us to any food allergies, allergies to insect bites, asthma, anxiety or anything else you feel we should know about.

Ø Medical issues will be kept confidential.

Ø Leaders carry a First Aid kit to each meeting/event.

Field Trips

Ø Several field trips are being considered for this year.

Ø Any parents who would like to chaperone field trips or help out at meetings must submit to a background check and must register as an adult Girl Scout ($10.00 fee). See leaders for details.

Ø Due to insurance reasons, siblings will not be included in field trips or events unless they are specifically “Family” events.
